When you need this

You booked a hotel in Toronto weeks ago. Now your flight has moved, or a friend is joining you, or you want to stay longer. You call or email the hotel to confirm, change, or cancel the booking. This call always starts the same way: say why you're calling, then give the name and the confirmation number so they can find you.

Hotels and airlines both use "confirmation number." Some hotels say "reservation number" or "booking number." They all mean the code in your email.
