When you need this

The front desk is there for more than check-in. Towels, a wake-up call, a broken air conditioner, a restaurant nearby, a taxi at six: it all goes through the same phone or the same counter. Most requests start with "Could I get...?" or "Could someone...?" and end with your room number.

When something is wrong, say what it is and ask for help in one breath. "The shower isn't working. Could someone take a look?" sounds calm and gets a person at your door faster than a long story.
