When you need this

The argument is over. Maybe you said something sharp, or maybe they did. Now comes the part people find hardest: coming back and making it right. It takes only a few words, and it matters more than who was right.

There are two sides. If you got angry, own it: "I lost my temper. I'm sorry." Don't add "but you..." straight after, because "but" erases the apology. If they're apologizing to you, accept it clearly: "Thanks for saying that. No hard feelings." And if you're still a little upset, you can say so honestly and still be kind.
