When you need this
At home, you install whatever you want. At work, the laptop belongs to the company, and most companies decide what goes on it. You'll often need admin rights, a license, or approval from the IT team before a new program can run. That's not the company being difficult; one bad download can put every machine on the network at risk.
So the language is about asking, checking and waiting. Ask whether the program is on the approved list. Say why you need it and which version. When an update arrives, don't ignore it forever, because updates often fix security holes. And if a program stops working after an update, say exactly that: "It worked yesterday, it updated overnight, and now it won't open."
