Shadow Eric first. Small talk works when the questions are short and follow what the other person says: "Did you get any sleep?" "What did you study?" Keep each one light and curious. Then take Fatima's part. She's tired but friendly; let "Stop there" be playful, not rude.

  1. EricGood morning. Twenty-fourth floor too?
  2. FatimaYes, please. Thank you.
  3. EricExcuse me, are you Ms. Okafor? You're meeting our team this morning. I'm Eric, from the design team.
  4. FatimaNice to meet you, Eric. Yes, I'm a little early.
  5. EricThat's lucky. The coffee's fresh before ten. How's your week going so far?
  6. FatimaBusy. I flew in from Nairobi late last night.
  7. EricThat's a long trip before a meeting. Did you get any sleep?
  8. FatimaAbout four hours. I'm running on coffee.
  9. EricThen you're going to the right floor.
  10. FatimaGood to know. Have you been in Dubai long?
  11. EricTwo years. Before that, I was in Toronto. I'm still getting used to the summers here.
  12. FatimaSummer here is serious. I lived in Dubai for a year when I was a student.
  13. EricReally? What did you study?
  14. FatimaArchitecture. That's why I'm so interested in your designs.
  15. EricThen you'll like the model we built for you. The roof alone took us three weeks.
  16. FatimaStop there. Don't tell me anything else. I want to be surprised.
  17. EricMy lips are sealed. Here's our floor. After you.
  18. FatimaThank you, Eric. That was a nicer ride than most.

Say it today

Use it once in a real conversation before tomorrow. Out loud counts, even to yourself.
