When you need this
A fast-food counter is quick and loud, and the person taking your order says the same questions a thousand times a day, fast. There are only a few: what you want, what size, what to drink, for here or to go. If you know them, you can answer before they finish asking.
Americans order with "Can I get...?" or "I'll have...," not "I want." It isn't rude to say "I want," but it sounds like a child. And "to go" is the American way to say you'll take the food away. In the UK you'll hear "eat in or take away?"
