Exam season changes every conversation on campus. People ask when your exams are, how much you've studied and how nervous you feel. Sharing the stress is part of how students get through it.

Americans use three words. A quiz is short and small, maybe ten minutes. A test is bigger. An exam is the big one. Most classes have a midterm in the middle of the semester and a final at the end. People often drop the word "exam": "I have two finals on Monday."

British students say "revise" where Americans say "study" or "review". If a British friend is "revising all weekend," they're studying for exams, not changing anything.
