When you need this

Sooner or later you'll leave a job, and the first conversation is the one people remember. You want to leave the way you'd like to be remembered: calm, grateful, and helpful about what happens next. Tell your manager in person or on a call, never only by email, and before anyone else on the team hears about it.

Keep the reason short and positive. "I've been offered a role that's a big step for me" is enough. You don't need to list what you didn't like, even if the list is long. The formal part comes afterward, in a short resignation letter. In the room, the goals are three: say it clearly, say thank you, and offer to help with the handover.
