When you need this
Some phone calls exist only to move information: an email address, an order number, a delivery date, a price. These are the calls where a small mistake costs the most. One wrong letter in an email address and the contract goes nowhere; "fifteen" heard as "fifty" and the order is wrong.
The fix is a habit, not better ears. Ask people to spell names, read numbers back in small groups, and say which way you'll send the details. For letters that sound alike, like B and D or M and N, people use a word: "B as in boy, D as in dog." For numbers, say "one five" to check whether it's fifteen or fifty. And when information matters, follow the call with an email so both sides have it in writing.
