The first good quarter

Shadow Yuki first. She's the owner, happy but careful, so her good news comes with a brake on it: "A small one, but a real one." Then take Tyler's part. He's excited for the team; let "That's huge" rise, and keep "Fair" short and thoughtful.

1. YukiTyler, close the door for a second. I have the numbers for the quarter.
2. TylerShould I be nervous? You're smiling, so probably not.
3. YukiWe made a profit. A small one, but a real one. We're back in the black.
4. TylerFor the first time since we moved the studio to Tokyo? That's huge.
5. YukiEighteen months of losing money, then three months of breaking even, and now this.
6. TylerSo, bonuses? The team has been working late since spring.
7. YukiThat's the question. Part of me wants to give everyone a bonus tomorrow.
8. TylerAnd the other part?
9. YukiThe other part remembers last winter, when we nearly couldn't pay the rent.
10. TylerFair. One good quarter isn't a trend.
11. YukiSo I'm thinking half and half. We put half aside for slow months and share the other half.
12. TylerThe team would appreciate that. Honestly, they'd appreciate hearing the numbers, too.
13. YukiYou think so? I've always kept the finances private.
14. TylerWhen things were bad, everyone guessed. It'd be nice to know when things are good.
15. YukiOkay. I'll show the numbers at Friday's meeting, then announce the bonus.
16. TylerAnd maybe order good food. People remember the food.
17. YukiSushi, not pizza. We're back in the black, after all.
