Take Hugo's part first, then Bella's. Hugo speaks gently and asks real questions; Bella starts guarded and relaxes line by line. Copy her suspicious "That depends. Is it bangs?" and the happy surprise in "Wow. It looks lighter."

  1. HugoHi, I'm Hugo. You must be Bella. First time here?
  2. BellaYes. My usual stylist moved to Sydney. So I'm a little nervous.
  3. HugoThat's normal. What would you like today?
  4. BellaJust a little off the ends, please. Nothing dramatic.
  5. HugoSure. How much is "a little" for you?
  6. BellaWhat do you mean?
  7. HugoPeople say "a little" and mean anything from one centimeter to twenty.
  8. BellaOh. About this much. The width of my finger.
  9. HugoPerfect, that's clear. Can I make one small suggestion first?
  10. BellaThat depends. Is it bangs? Everyone always suggests bangs.
  11. HugoNot bangs. A few layers around your face. It would add some movement.
  12. BellaThe last time I tried layers, I cried for a week.
  13. HugoThen we won't do anything you're unsure about. Your hair, your choice.
  14. BellaCould you show me how much? Before you cut?
  15. HugoOf course. Look in the mirror. From here to here, only in the front.
  16. BellaThat's much less than I imagined. Okay. Let's go for it.
  17. HugoYou're in good hands. I'll stop anytime you say.
  18. Bella(later) Wow. It looks lighter, but still like me.
  19. HugoThat's the goal. Same you, only a bit brighter.

Say it today

Use it once in a real conversation before tomorrow. Out loud counts, even to yourself.
