When you need this

Football opinions come in all sizes. Some people plan their whole weekend around it. Some watch only the big game in February. Some find it slow and violent and would rather do anything else. All of those are normal, and you'll meet each type at work or at a party.

This lesson gives you general statements: how you feel about the sport, why, and how much you watch. The useful structures are I'm (not) a big fan of, What I like about it is, I can't stand, and It's not really my thing. They work for any sport, or any hobby at all.

Two soft moves keep these conversations friendly. First, balance a negative with a positive: "I find the games too long, but the atmosphere's great." Second, turn it back with a question: "What got you into it?" People love explaining why they love something.
