When you need this

Inviting a friend to a movie has three parts: check if they're free, say what you want to see, and agree on a time and place. Americans usually ask about the time first. "Are you free Friday?" gives your friend a polite way out before you mention a film they might hate.

Saying no is part of the ritual too. A friendly "no" gives a reason and leaves the door open for next time. People rarely say a flat "no, thanks" to a friend.
