When you need this
You're outside the restaurant, or at the subway entrance, or by a car. The date is over, and the goodbye is the last thing you'll both remember. A good one says three things: thanks, "I enjoyed this," and "get home safe."
The goodbye is also where you show what you'd like next, without pressure. "I'd love to do this again" is a clear, warm signal. "This was fun. Let's talk soon" is friendly and more open. Both are honest, and the other person can answer however they like.
A hug or a kiss goodnight is something you ask about or read carefully, never assume. "Can I give you a hug?" isn't awkward in English. Most people find it thoughtful, and a "maybe next time" is fine to hear with a smile.
