When you need this

You have a free evening and no plan, so you call a friend. A call like this has a shape: check that they can talk, say why you called (often "no reason"), and then either chat or make a plan.

The first line matters most. A call out of nowhere can make people worry, so English speakers open with a quick signal that nothing is wrong: "Hey, it's Hana. Nothing important, I was bored." After that, the other person relaxes and the call can be about anything.

Give them a way out, too. "Is this a bad time?" lets a busy friend say "Can I call you back?" without feeling rude. That small politeness makes people happy to pick up the next time.
