The pattern

"I'm" plus a small word tells people where you are. The small word depends on the kind of place. "In" is for something that surrounds you: a room, a car, a city, a country. "At" is for a point or a place seen from outside: at work, at the station, at a party. "On" is for surfaces and for public transport: on the floor, on the bus, on the train, on a plane.

People answer "Where are you?" with this pattern dozens of times a week, usually on the phone. Nobody says "I am located in". They say "I'm in the kitchen" and move on.
