The pattern
"I have" plus a past participle (done, seen, finished, been) connects the past to now. "I've finished the report" means it is done and ready this minute. "I've been to Tokyo" means the experience is part of your life, no date needed. This is the present perfect, and it has two everyday jobs: news that matters now, and life experience.
Say "I've", never "I have", in conversation. And watch what happens when you add a finished time: "I saw that film last week" uses the simple past, because "last week" is over. "I've seen that film" says only that you know it.
